This was a big year for me; it started off on a very high note. I was a junior at this point. I was finishing my Plump's Topia series, freelancing whenever I could. Filming a reality tv photography competition and planning my first solo exhibition. This was also the point where my photos became more expressive and experimental.

The biggest thing I wasn't prepared for was people vocalizing their opinions about me. And being on tv, that just amplified it so much more. I was making good pieces. I found my voice and style. There was a lot of validation around me, but I was too focused on the outside and the faraway. They weren't criticizing my work. They were criticizing me.

I really wanted to be a fashion photographer. I knew I had to work on a fashion photography portfolio. But I had no access to fashion. So I learned how to sew and started making props for my portfolio.

This is the outcome of the final challenge. Each person was assigned a 'story' to cover, and mine was the Honey Village in Fujairah, an old bee farming community. Their grandfather was part of the community that grew up in the mountains before they moved. It was an incredibly enriching experience.

I had a small setup that I used as an ever-changing space for photography. I had cute light coming in from the window. The setup is inspired by Julia Margaret Cameron.

My favorite photographs from Plumstopia. These were the initial 3 that kicked off the whole project. It's crazy to see how the entire thing exploded after these three pictures. This was the moment I saw my art reflecting my inner world. Each one of these images symbolizes an emotional burden I was meant to understand and heal from.
